Kids, we know what you want… MILKSHAKES!

FFM Cafe Is Now Serving!

FFM Cafe is officially open for business and serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner! We are now also open 7 days a week from 7 AM to 7 PM. This is exciting news, and we have already served a lot of sandwiches and salads to locals!

FFM Gourmet Coffee... Ready by 7 AM Daily!

Gourmet Coffee… Ready by 7 AM Daily!

Paxton hasn’t had a restaurant for many, many years (I’m not totally sure they ever had a proper restaurant), so it’s taking locals some time to get used to the idea of going out for a meal here in town. Being right in front of Paxton School, we see a lot of morning traffic, but breakfast really hasn’t caught on… yet. We have a few “regulars” already that pop in for coffee and a bagel or biscuit. You’ll just have to taste our offering yourself, and you too might become a regular at FFM. We are here at 7 in the morning with the grill and our signature gourmet coffee hot and ready for you.

Lunch is our most popular meal. We start serving our delicious grilled sandwiches and fresh salads at 10:30 (for teachers that have early lunch breaks). You will find a hearty offering of made-to-order entrees, and an assortment of sides and beverages to go with them. For anyone who needs their lunch ready for them to grab and go, we offer call-ahead ordering. Order early, and you’ll be put in line at the best time for you!

Spring Salad

Dinner is essentially the same as lunch, but we do have a few nights that are busier than others. Wednesday nights, you might want to get that order to go. Our cafe fills up quickly because Weight Watchers meets at FFM starting at 5 PM. You are welcome to sit in the cafe if there is an open table, but often we reach maximum capacity, so plan accordingly. We are working on an outdoor eating area that will help with overflow issues soon.

We’re excited to be serving our community as well as anyone else who comes along, and we look forward to seeing you soon! Thank you for supporting our local small business… Come on down to Paxton, FL for good eats and good times!

Get Your Mug On A Mug Contest!

Get Your Mug On A Mug!

Get Your Mug On A Mug!

It’s contest time! To commemorate our new offering of custom mugs in our gift shop, we are having a photo contest. Here’s how it works:

1. Post a photo on Facebook of yourself, your friend, your mom, you kid, your cat… whatever mug you want to have printed on your mug if you win.

2. Tag Florida Farmers Market in your photo. (You have to be our friend by liking us on Facebook to tag FFM.) OR… Post it on our wall, and we’ll tag it for you. Either way is cool!

3. Tell everyone you know to like your photo.

The most likes on a single photo by Monday morning at 9AM on February 25th wins their mug on a mug! That’s pretty simple isn’t it? Oh, we almost forgot to mention, you will be famous if you win… Your photo mug will be the very first one we ever print… First FOREVER!

THE RULES:
– Photo must be a new upload (we’ll check the dates, so don’t cheat!)
– No rude or dirty photos (Keep your clothes on and your middle finger down.)
– No extreme close-ups or tight crops that cut part of your head off… We have to be able to cut your whole head out in photo editing later.
– You must have the right to print any copyrighted photos entered. (All photos are copyrighted by the person that took them automatically according to the laws of the United States.) Don’t use another person’s work without their permission.
– By entering the contest, you agree to abide by these rules, and you also grant Florida Farmers Market (a Team Dave company) permission to re-print your photo royalty-free on your mug as well as for future promotional use on other media.

Have fun, and good luck! We look forward to seeing your mugs on Facebook!

We Aren’t The Only Crafters Here

Fabric and Ribbon Necklaces: All unique!

Fabric and Ribbon Necklaces: All unique!

Heather and I (Dave) do indeed make most of the handmade items that you find here at Florida Farmers Market, but our percentage of the hand-crafted gifts available at FFM is steadily decreasing as we meet new vendors of high quality hand-crafted items. Jennifer Pybus of My 3 Chickadees & Me (Lockhart, AL) has introduced us to some fun items that are not only super creative but also useful! Her work is all currently geared to the female shoppers, so sorry fellas, your interest may have stopped right here. You may still need gift ideas, so don’t leave us yet!

As you might guess from the name, My 3 Chickadees & Me, Jennifer crafts with her 3 daughters in mind and usually in tow. Her girly girl creations range from pom pon hair accessories and ink pens, flower and feather ink pens, up-cycled jewelry made from various materials, vintage fabric hand-sewn dolls, and even gift tags made from up-cycled materials to tag her girly gifts with. We love Jennifer’s work, and we are happy to have her as part of the crafting team here at Florida Farmers Market. My 3 Chickadees & Me handmade gifts range from $3 to $20, so you can’t go wrong buying these hand crafted FFM exclusives as gifts or for yourself!

Believe what you read in the papers!

It’s true! You can believe that we are very excited to know that we were written about in the local newspapers The Defuniak Herald and The Florala News. Reid Tucker wrote a very nice full page feature article about the Florida Farmers Market, and we are really excited about it! We’ve been seeing more visitors and getting a few more phone calls since it ran in these papers. We really appreciate the coverage, and we can’t wait to announce the opening of the café soon. Hats off to Reid… Everything he said is true!

We are OPEN!

Dave Palmer, Tank Palmer, and Heather Johnson

Dave Palmer, Tank Palmer, and Heather Johnson celebrate the opening of their new business, Florida Farmers Market.

FINALLY, we are OPEN!

It’s been a long time coming, and we have been working very hard for the past 6 months to get us to this day. Our county inspection went off without a hitch, and we happily opened up the next full day after our inspection. Friday, December 14, 2012 is possibly one of the happiest days of our lives here at Florida Farmers Market!

Florida Farmers Market Cafe

The Florida Farmers Market Cafe ready to serve (pending inspection)

Following a surprise Facebook announcement, Thursday after the inspection, many of our local friends and family members showed up to check the farmers market out. Most everyone had the same question… “When are you going to open the café?” The answer is not a simple one, but we can tell you that we have two more official visits from governing agencies that are required before we can open up the café portion of the farmers market.

Cafe Seating

Some of the seating in the café. Free WIFI is already set up and available.

First, the Fire Marshal has to visit us and tell us our maximum occupancy ratings for the building and the cafe’s seating capacity. After that, it’s time to call the Health Inspector to give us the OK to serve food and beverages. The whole process can take up to a month, but we are hoping for a quicker turn-around so we can feed these obviously very hungry people who keep asking. (haha!)

FFM Gift Shop

A quick look at some of what the FFM Gift Shop has to offer. LOTS of handmade and unique gifts.

Farmers are a bit scarce right now since there aren’t many local Winter crops aside from greens and sweet potatoes, but we have spoken to a few local farmers and some crafters about setting up in the outdoor market booths given this mild Winter we are experiencing. If you know anyone who might be interested, please connect us to one another by passing on our phone number 850-708-9195… We are willing to make a deal on booth rental if they are willing to show up! Everybody else, come and check out our gift shop for unique gifts for you and your family. You could make someone’s Christmas with something cool we made locally right here in Paxton.

The Fish(ing) Channel

Gutted… the tank fits in there perfectly!

Today I finally had a chance to put some fish in my new fish tank. I gutted an old 1980 Panasonic console TV and replaced its guts with a fish tank. It wasn’t all that hard, and it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for years… Well mark that off as done!

Now I’ve fitted a light to the back to look like a TV inside the unit for the fish to watch.

Add water, fish, and decorations, and we have a full tank!

I thought a gator skull was appropriate for a Florida aquarium.

Some of our new fish… Schooling already!
