Here are the details you might be looking for… an FAQ about the outdoor market at Florida Farmers Market.
Q: When do you have produce at FFM?
A: Whenever farmers show up to sell their crops. We are open every day 7 AM – 7 PM, and farmers are welcome to come any day they like and sell their crops between those hours. If we are open, farmers may be here! That said, some days and times of year will inevitably be more popular than others, but who’s to say that people only buy on the weekends or holidays?
Q: How much is booth rental?
A: Growers of produce and hand-crafters can sell their goods in the outdoor market FREE OF CHARGE. Resellers of products or sellers of 3rd party products or produce must pay a flat fee of $15 prior to setting up. If you have a question about your eligibility to sell in the outdoor market, please give us a call at 850-708-9195.
Q: Can anyone sell produce in the outdoor market? Do you have to be a full time farmer?
A: Yes, any producer of produce can sell in the outdoor market. If you have a backyard garden that produces vegetables and fruit, we’d love for you to come and sell it in our outdoor market! As spaces fill up on popular days, we will have to give space preference to those who have the most crops to sell for the benefit of buyers. It would be wise to reserve a space in advance by giving us a call at least a few days before you plan to sell, but to date we haven’t ever turned anyone away.
Q: Can people sell things other than produce at FFM?
A: The short answer is “yes”, but there are some stipulations. We are a farmers market, so we will always give preference to produce sellers. Crafters and artists are welcome to set up booths as well. Sellers of meat and dairy products must have a license to sell those products in Florida. No illegal products, alcohol, tobacco, “junk”, or garage sale items are allowed.
Q: Should we bring tables and chairs to set up?
A: The pergola is set up so that sellers can pull up and sell right out of the back of their pickup trucks. If you don’t want to do that, or you don’t have a truck, you are welcome to set up tables and chairs, but you will need to bring your own.
Q: How do the customers pay for their purchases? Should I bring change?
A: The idea is sellers can show up with a full truck and empty pockets, and hopefully they will leave with an empty truck and full pockets. However we have found that people like dealing directly with the farmers. We don’t want anyone to turn away a customer due to lack of cash, so we are willing to accept a credit card payment on behalf of the farmers if it means saving the sale. Should this occur, farmers will be paid by check at the end of the day for their credit card driven sales minus 3% to cover the cost of processing.
Q: Is electricity provided for a plug in?
A: At the moment, no electricity is provided in the outdoor market. We can drop an extension cord in a special circumstance.
That pretty well covers the most common questions we get. If you have other questions, please feel free to give us a call at 850-708-9195, and one of our knowledgeable employees will try to answer your questions. See you at Florida Farmers Market!
